GTA 6: the release date, map and everything Rockstar has actually confirmed
Rockstar has locked GTA 6 to November 19, 2026, and the CEO says there will be no more delays. Here is every fact that traces back to Rockstar itself, the setting, the two leads, the regions, the price, cleanly separated from the rumors.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. It follows a criminal couple, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, across the modern-day state of Leonida, centered on a rebuilt Vice City. The Standard Edition is $79.99. A PC version, the map's true size and the online mode are all still unconfirmed.
There is more noise around GTA 6 than any game in a decade, and most of it is people repeating leaks as if they were announcements. Here is the clean version: only what Rockstar itself has confirmed, separated from the pile of very confident guesses. If a detail below is not here, assume it is not official.
When does GTA 6 come out?
Rockstar has confirmed a release date of Thursday, November 19, 2026. Getting here was not smooth: the game was first pinned to 2025, slipped to a May 26, 2026 date, and then moved again to November. This time it looks firm, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has publicly said there will be no further delays, and pre-orders have been live since June 25. A dated, pre-orderable game is a very different thing from the rumor-driven guesses of the last two years.
What platforms is GTA 6 on?
At launch, GTA 6 is a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S title only. There is no last-gen version and, more painfully for a lot of people, no confirmed PC version.
That matches Rockstar's pattern exactly. GTA 5 launched on consoles first and only reached PC around 18 months later. Expect the same here: a PC release is likely eventually, and most analysts pencil it in for 2027 or 2028, but any PC date you see today is a rumor until Rockstar says otherwise.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
Rockstar has confirmed two editions:
| Edition | Price (US) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $79.99 | The complete single-player game |
| Ultimate | $99.99 | The full game plus bonus content |
The important part: the $79.99 Standard Edition is the complete experience. The Ultimate Edition adds extras rather than gating any of the core game. Every pre-order, any edition and platform, also includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of bonus in-game items.
Where is GTA 6 set?
The game is set in the modern-day fictional state of Leonida, a Florida analogue, centered on a returning and rebuilt Vice City, Rockstar's Miami. This is the first mainline return to Vice City since 2002, rendered for the first time on current-generation hardware.
Rockstar's own material confirms Leonida is more than the city. Named regions include Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park, a mix of dense urban core, wetlands, keys and rural interior. How big the whole thing is remains the most-guessed and least-confirmed detail (more on that below).
Who are the GTA 6 protagonists?
For the first time in the modern series, GTA 6 has a dual-protagonist story built around a couple: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Rockstar has framed them as a romantically involved criminal pair pulled into a conspiracy that stretches across Leonida, drawing open comparisons to Bonnie and Clyde.
Lucia is also notable as the series' first playable female lead in a mainline entry. What Rockstar has not detailed is the mechanical side: how and when you switch between the two, and how their arcs interlock. Treat any specific "character-switching system" description as a guess.

What we still do not know
The biggest open questions are the ones fans care most about:
- How big is the map, really? Community analysis of the trailers puts it around 125 km², roughly twice GTA 5, across six regions with no loading screens. That is a fan estimate. Rockstar has published no official size.
- What happens to online? GTA Online was a financial juggernaut, so a successor is near-certain in spirit, but its shape and timing are unofficial.
- Will it hit 60 fps? Console performance-mode details have not been confirmed.
The next official beat is a dedicated GTA 6 showcase on 27 August 2026, which Rockstar will premiere on Netflix before it rolls out to Rockstar's own YouTube channel and the game's site, an unusual launch-marketing move that lands during Gamescom week and should fill in more of the map, the online mode and the road to release. The date itself looks solid: on Take-Two's 7 August 2026 earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed 19 November and called pre-orders "exceptional", saying the premium pricing had not dented demand.
Should you pre-order?
Only if you want the Ultimate extras, or simply want it locked in with the Vintage Pack. The Standard Edition will be available at launch and the game is not going to sell out in any meaningful sense, so there is no urgency-based reason to pre-order. Buy on the strength of the game, not fear of missing out.
The healthiest way to follow GTA 6 from here is simple: when a claim does not trace back to Rockstar, treat it as entertainment, not information. For more, see the Gaming section.
