What Google announced
The lineup spans four phones. The standard Pixel 11 starts at $899 with 256GB of storage as standard; the Pixel 11 Pro and larger Pixel 11 Pro XL start at $1,099 and $1,299; and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, the folding flagship, starts at $1,899 with 16GB of RAM. Alongside them Google introduced the Pixel Watch 5 at $399 and, for the first time, its own Bluetooth tracker, the Pixel Tag, a rival to Apple's AirTag. Everything is available to pre-order now and ships on 20 August 2026.
Under the hood is a new Tensor G6, Google's own chip, now built on an advanced 2-nanometre process and paired with a Titan M3 security coprocessor. Google says the G6 improves power efficiency by about 20% over last year's G5, with faster browsing and app loading. As ever with Google's silicon, the point is less raw benchmark speed than running its AI features efficiently on the device.
The real story: Gemini everywhere
Strip away the spec sheet and the launch was a demonstration of what Google wants AI on a phone to feel like, and two features stood out.
The first is genuinely useful and quietly significant: Google expanded its Live Transcribe tool so that, using the Pixel camera, it can translate American Sign Language into text in real time. That gives deaf and hard-of-hearing users another way to communicate face to face with people who do not sign, without anyone having to type. It is the kind of accessibility feature that justifies the "AI in your pocket" framing far better than another chatbot demo.
The second, called Rambler, is a voice-input feature built around how people actually talk. Instead of demanding a clean, well-formed command, Rambler is designed to cope with run-on sentences, filler words and half-finished thoughts, and still work out what you meant. It is a small idea with a big implication: the interface is bending to the messy human, rather than the human learning to speak "computer". Around these headliners, Google threaded Gemini through the rest of the system, which is the whole strategy in miniature.
The fold and the watch
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the hardware showpiece: an 8-inch inner OLED display, brightness pushed up to around 3,600 nits across its screens, and a thinner, sturdier body that Google claims is more durable than before. Folding phones remain a premium niche at 1,899 dollars, but they are where makers show off.
The Pixel Watch 5 leans into health, adding blood-pressure trend tracking and an insulin-resistance metric to its sensors, for $399. It also carries the "Gemini everywhere" idea onto the wrist: an offline mode handles timers, alarms and workouts by voice with no connection needed, while a "Gemini Intelligence" layer can proactively suggest actions inside your messages. The assistant Google spent the event selling now follows you from phone to watch, which is the whole strategy in miniature.
The quiet price rise
One number moved in the wrong direction for buyers: the entry Pixel 11 launched at $899, reported to be about a hundred dollars more than the equivalent model a year ago. Google is not alone. Across 2026, hardware has broadly been getting more expensive, games consoles among the clearest examples, as component costs, especially memory, have climbed in the AI build-out. A pricier baseline phone from the value-flagship brand is part of that broader squeeze, and worth factoring in against the shiny AI features: the assistant may be free to talk to, but the device it lives on costs more than it used to.

What it signals
The honest read is that the Pixel 11 is an evolutionary set of phones wrapped around a genuine strategic bet: that the reason to choose a phone is shifting from the camera and the screen to the assistant. That bet is not obviously wrong. The sign-language feature is the kind of thing that only an on-device AI can do well, and it points at a future where the most valuable part of a phone is what its software understands, not what its hardware measures. But the gap between pitch and product is still the thing to watch, in AI features that demo beautifully and then have to prove themselves in daily use.
